UnPD turns ONE!

One year ago, Emily and I registered the domain http://www.unprofessionaldevelopment.org. Our tagline was “A workshop series for cartographers, comedians and other troublemakers who teach.” In our very first Google Doc, we wrote that UnPD would be “an antidote to burnout; a creative support group for teachers who spend their Sundays planning for Mondays; a collective of rabble-rousers.

Since then, we’ve led workshops across the country and met hundreds of teachers who aspire to write books, build houses, run marathons and bring their creative selves into their classrooms every day. (The Open Window School fashion show, left, proves that inspirational PD truly can be (un)professional.)

We launched a toolbox full of creative provocations, lesson sparks and favorite essays (like “What Every Kid Should Be Able to Do by Age Sixteen“)

Our credo lives in classrooms worldwide, inspiring folks to set their fear on fire.

Coming up in the next 365 days …

  • We printed up some tote bags to celebrate our birthday: Check them out at our shop!
  • We’re leading a Creativity 101 workshop at our home base in Berkeley, Girls Garage, on December 10. Learn more and register here.
  • Want to make your own bags? Or pick locks? Join us for a workshop at Girls Garage this fall!
  • We’d love to work with you during the 2016-17 school year. Nothing is too small or too audacious – we’re excited to expand the UnPD community this year.
